MOC and GNOME

Hey,

I love the player, and I'm using it exclusively, thanks a lot to Damian for developing that wonderwul piece of software. It's perfect.

Well, almost... ;)

I am not much of a programmer, but I think I can manage a simple GNOME applet to control the server - that's what I'm really missing, because I don't want to have a console dedicated to the player (it's a tad cumbersome to use), and I'd like to be able to just have a look at the applet and see what's playing, for how long, etc. I know there is one applet already, but it's written in OCaml, which I don't understand, and I couldn't compile it, either. And I don't want to keep the OCaml stuff on my machine, because my space is limited.

Besides, it will be a nice exercise for me, so I'll be doing it mostly for the coding experience. :P

So, my question is this - should I use the command line options (e.g., `mocp -p`, `mocp -s`, etc.) to send commands to the server, or is there another way I'm not aware of? As far as I could tell from the OCaml source for the existing applet, Start|Stop|Play are sent in a different way, and the info is updated by `mocp --info`. However, what this other way is is beyond my poor skills to find out on my own.

Any advice will be much appreciated,

Cheers,
Emil

Feature requests

First of all thanks for the great music player ;)

My feedback on features I would like to see,

* Search function in the playlist
* Possibility to queue tracks in the playlist

I don't know if these are in development already or are on the TODO-list but thanks in advance.

long path cutted on the right- song not really visible then

Hi, is there a way to get the songs in the playlist shown without beeing cutted?
(i mean while still seeing the song-list on the left - with a splitted window)

they are flac-files without any tags.

cheers,

PS: I could try to make a patch with some configuration options so I can get there only the file or file with last path, even so i'm quite ouf of practice coding at least.

musepack problem

I have a problem with musepack on my moc 2.4.0 compiled by me: I get the following message when I try to play a mpc file:

FATAL_ERROR: Can't receive value from the server

xmms with its musepack plugin is able to read this mpc file.

When I make mocp -SDF, it gives:

Loading plugins from /usr/local/lib/moc/decoder_plugins...
Loading plugin libflac_decoder...
OK
Loading plugin libmp3_decoder...
OK
Loading plugin libmusepack_decoder...
OK
Loading plugin libvorbis_decoder...
OK

My system is debian sarge with 2.6.8.3 kernel.

What am I doing wrong?

decoder plugins

I have recently installed moc, but it doesn't start, it errors out with:
FATAL ERROR: No decoder plugins have been loaded!
I found that I do have decoder plugin in /usr/lib/moc/decoder_plugins (in the form of .so and .la files). What am I doing wrong?

musepack bug

There's a bug in musepack-playing module. In all mpc files I recently hear some short crashes in background. I'm quite sure it's not the matter of my soundcard (onboard NForce2). In other players like Juk or XMMS there's nothing like that. I've got the newest musepack library.
MOC's version is 2.4.0.

#MOC irc channel?

Hello,

maybe I had a weird mind voyage but I think to remember MOC had an irc channel. Is it true? If not, why not create it on freenode? I can help as moderator and killer of trolls ;)

Best regards,
timofonic

MOC multi-user support?

Hello,

what about adding multi-user support? Having only one MOC running on the machine all time and then each user (that executed mocp) having it's own playlist, only able to play the files that he has enough permissions and it's own configuration. I find this useful and nice! ;)

Best regards,
timofonic

PS: Sorry for the thread-attack (attack it's weak point for massive damage), I collected from my brain all the MOC-phantasies and uploaded them to the MOC forum using the keyboard interface in a very fast manner 8-)
