Debian: Can't set sample rate 44100, device doesn't support this value

I installed moc on Debian 3.1 from it's packages, but it can't play sound - it shows this error
Can't set sample rate 44100, device doesn't support this value

XMMS/Noatunes works just fine. Any suggestions?

I tried both -R OSS and -R ALSA - same results...

I'm new to debian, I prefer FreeBSD where mocp works just fine....

MOC and archives (rar, zip,etc)

Hi!!

I have music files packed to archives and prepared to upload by P2P folks.
Would it be possible, to play such packed files with MOC , as
long, long time ago, I used play those files with Foobar2000 (Win)??

MOC preloads VBR files?

I have a network directory on a Windows box mounted via samba. When I select a VBR-encoded mp3 on this directory, there is a long delay (up to a minute) before playback starts - the longer the mp3, the longer the wait. If I have deduced correctly, this is because MOC is preloading the whole VBR file to determine its length before starting playback. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but because out network is wireless and old, this preloading happens at a crawling 350KB/s.

Is there any way to prevent this preloading? MOC claims to support Xing headers. That would solve the problem as the track length is saved in the Xing header. However, this problem still happens with Xing-header equipped mp3s - I think. Maybe my experiment with mpgedit didn't work after all...

Thanks,
Andi

Lynx-like directory browsing

Fellow moc users,

here's a handy tip that I'm finding so useful to warrant mentioning to everybody else. Lynx-like directory browsing:

go_up = LEFT
go = RIGHT ENTER

The standard keybindings for left and right are MPlayer-like, but I browse directories much more than I seek files and I think many others do. Of course you need to redefine the seeking keybindings too. Here are some sane values, at least for US keyboards:

seek_backward = [
seek_forward = ]
seek_backward_fast = {
seek_forward_fast = }

Thanks to whoever made the keys customizable!

Supported audio formats (looking for APE)

I was looking in moc for APE (MonkeyAudio) support, but it seems that this format is no supported. If i am wrong please let me know. If this format is not supported, are there any plans to put support for it to mocp ?.

Can't set audio format: Invalid argument

Whenever I try to play something in MOC I get this error in the bottom "status bar", then the program tries the next song in the playlist, I get the same error, and so on. I have not been able play anything with MOC on this computer. I have tried playing multiple song formats, various mp3s and flac. Every other program plays music just fine (mpg321, flac123, play, xmms, beep-media-player...)

OS: Debian unstable
Kernel: custom vanilla 2.6.11.5
Arch: PowerPC, Apple "dual-usb" white G3 iBook
Soundcard: internal Apple one (OSS, DMASOUND_PMAC, sound/oss/dmasound)

Relevant (consecutive) lines of mocp_server_log:

I have tried both Debian packages, the one in Debian unstable (2.3.3-1) and the development one from your site (2.3.3+2.4.0-alpha2-2) though I have not been able to compile the subversion code myself. Something with "underquoted definition of AM_PATH_LIBXOSD" and "LIBTOOL is undefined". Whatever.

Is this the right place to report a bug?
