Compilation fix for FLAC 1.1.3.

Current version of MOC can't be compiled with FLAC 1.1.3 due to API changes in the library. Josh Coalson sent me a patch to fix that some time ago which is included in the SVN repository, but in case someone needs this, it's also here.

FAQ

I've created a small FAQ (only 3 questions for now) that describes most common problems with MOC that people encourage. I hope it will grow over time and will be a valuable help for MOC's users.

reencode file names using librcc

Alexey Gladkov made another patch that enables MOC to use librcc not only for mp3 tags, but also for file names. You can download it here.

2.4.1 - not all bugs fixed

The good news today is that we have a new release. Unfortunately it doesn't mean that the development of MOC awaken. I've decided to make this version because as you can see in the changelog there were 16 bugs fixed since the last release. Moreover there are still known bugs which havent been resolved, you can read the list in the TODO file included with the sources. My policy is to not include new features when the last number in the version increases, but there is one little addition, the 'P' command (PlaylistFullPaths configuration option) that allows to turn off displaying full paths in the playlist.

For those who want new features there is a little more in the SVN version: a command to prune unreadable files from the playlist (written by tyranix) and Modplug support (by Hendrik Iben) not included in 2.4.1.

Command to prune unreadable files from the playlist

Tyranix made a patch for MOC 2.4.0 that adds a command to prune unreadable file from the playlist. You can download it from here

Server crash

The MOC homepage was not available for few days because of a hard disk failure on the server, but it's back again. It took so long because my backups were not full and didn't contain the CMS installation for MOC site, but the content of the page was restored. I hope everything works OK, the new instalation is the latest relese of Drupal with the default theme, so it looks a bit different.

The content of the FTP was also lost, I've restored all releases from a mirror, but currently the patches are not available, sorry.

Modplug support and current MOC status

Hendrik Iben wrote a modplug plugin which can be downloaded from http://www.tzi.de/~hiben/moc/. It uses libmodplug and supports various formats like .mod, .ux etc. It will be added in the next release (2.5.x line).

I also want to inform that I have a new job which in conjunction with my other activities prevents me from doing MOC development, I don't have enough free time for that :(. It means that you should not expect any new feature-rich release (2.5.0). What I want to do is to fix some bugs that are listed in my TODO file (about 6-10, some are unconfirmed) and make a bugfix version, but even this little release should not be expected soon. This is the moment when you (free software community) can help, if you want a new feature in MOC, don't ask for it, you must do it yourself, the modplug plugin is a good example.

I hope this situation is temporary and MOC development will continue somehow.
